Stick with me to find answers to all these questions.

How to Get Started?

Visit Fantasy Premier League site and register  yourself. Once you are done with the registration process, you are given a total budget of £100 million (virtual money). You need this money to select 15 players for your dream XI from 20 teams who are in the Barclays Premier League.

To start with, you need to select the following players:

  • Two Goalkeepers
  • 2) Five Defenders
  • 3) Five Mid-Field players and
  • 4) Three Forwards/Strikers

You are free to choose any player from any team provided you do not select more than 3 players from the same team. Now, the most important factor that comes into play when buying/selecting these players is your budget. You have got a total of £100 Million Budget and each player costs in Millions. So, when you are buying players for your team, your budget gets decreasing. Therefore, you have to integrate your budget with better performing players. Players with excellent last season are more expensive than others. The price of each player varies from 5 to 12 £Million. It can be more or less than this.

Once you are ready with your 15-player squad, you need to choose your first-11 players. Based on the performances of these players in the actual Premier League matches, you will earn points for that respective Game week (Game week is the week when the actual Premier League matches take place).

You are also required to choose a Captain and a Vice-Captain because a Captain will earn you double the points which he scores based on his actual performance.

The Vice-Captain also gives you the same benefit as the Captain but only if your Captain did not play a match in that Game week.

Pretty confusing right? Let me clarify the situation for you. Say, you have made Vincent Kompany your captain and Sergio Aguero your Vice Captain. Now, what possible situation can happen in a game week?

  • Both Kompany and Aguero play their respective match. In this case Kompany’s points will be doubled and not Aguero’s.
  • b) Kompany did not play his match and Aguero played his. In this case, Aguero’s points will be doubled.
  • c) Both Kompany and Aguero did not play their respective match. In this case, you will not earn double points for any player.

When you find out that one or more of your players are not performing, you can use the Transfer section to remove that player from your team and select another better player. After each Game week, you are awarded 1 Free-Transfer. Free-Transfer means it will not cost you your Game week points for buying another player. You will only require the budget to buy that player. Also, you cannot exceed more than 2 Free-Transfers in a Game week, which means it will cost you 4 points for every player that you transfer after your 2 Free-Transfers are over for the respective Game week.

What kind of formation can I use in my Fantasy Premier League’ Dream XI?

You need to have at the most 1-Goalkeeper, 3-Defenders and 1-Forward selected always and you are allowed to play any the following formations:

  • 5-4-1
  • 2) 5-3-2
  • 3) 5-2-3
  • 4) 4-5-1
  • 5) 4-4-2
  • 6) 4-3-3
  • 7) 3-5-2
  • 8) 3-4-3

What kind of cards I can use in this game?

Each player of this game is awarded by these following cards:

  • Wildcard: This allows you to completely change your 15-player squad without you having to lose on your Game week points. You get 2 of these cards. One to be used before the Premier League’s January Transfer Window and one after the Transfer Window closes.
  • All-Out Attack: This allows you to use a special formation of 2-5-3 in that Game Week. You get only 1-All Out-Attack card which can be used anytime during the season.
  • Triple Captain: With this card played, the points of your Captain/ Vice-Captain will be 3 times their original points. You get only 1-Triple Captain cards which can be used anytime during the season.
  • Bench-Boost: With this card played, your total points will include the points of the players that are your substitutes. In short, points of all the 15 players will be added for that Game week. You get an only 1-Bench-Boost card which can be used anytime during the season.

8 Hacks to play Fantasy Premier League 2019-20

  • Invest Wisely in your Players Though you select 15 players in your team, only 11 can participate in a game week (other than one game week where bench boost is used). Make sure the 4 players sitting on the bench does not eat your budget. There is no point in keeping a player of high value on the bench. Players’ prices at 4 to 5M are ideal for bench. Make sure that these players are regular starters for their clubs. They may come in handy when auto substitution is used.

  • Goal Keeper Select goalkeepers from the clubs that are most likely to keep clean sheets (Playing a match without conceding a goal is considered as 1 Clean Sheet). In other words, select goalkeepers who don’t have difficult fixtures ahead or the ones who have strong defensive sides.

  • Formation You need to have a strategy while playing FPL. There are various formations allowed in FPL, but you need to select the formation you feel right and stick to that for most of the game weeks. 4–3–3, 3–5–2,3–4–3, 4–4–2 are some of the formations that will bring more points. EPL has become more attacking, hence it is wise to keep fewer defenders. Avoid playing 5 defenders at the back. Once you have selected the formation you can start selecting the players accordingly.

  • Defenders Most FPL managers do not give importance to defenders, but believe me, selecting the right defense could make huge difference to your game week points and your position at the end of the season. Avoid selecting multiple defenders from the same club and defender and goalkeeper from the same club. Try to select defenders who play in attacking positions are more likely to bring in assists and goals. Players like Walker, Alonso, David Luiz are ideal candidates.

  • Midfielders and Forwards Avoid having defensive players in the team. Though players like Matic, Kante are very important for their clubs, they may not bring you enough points for your FPL team. Midfielders like David Silva, Mkhitaryan are ideal as they are more likely to bring assists and goals. Keep those players on your side who have more goals and assists.

  • Transfer Market You will be getting a free transfer every game week. If you have not used that you can use 2 transfer in the next week (not more than 2). Any additional transfers after the free transfer will cost you 4 points. So, use your transfer wisely. It is ok to use transfers more than the free transfers allowed to bring in the must-have players but don’t get carried away and lose 4 points for each additional transfer.

  • Players to avoid: Avoid players who are injured, got banned thorough red card, 5 yellow cards. Players who are not most likely to starts. Players out of form, players whose value is more likely to be reduced and players leaving on the international duty.

  • Choose your captain wisely Captain brings in double points in each game week, so choose your captain wisely.
